LAND BOARD

The Land Board met on Monday. Present: Messrs Kelly, Standish, and Marchant. Chairman.—-In the absence of ths Commissioner of Crown' Lands, Mr Kelly was elected to the chair. Grazing Run.—Run 5, Opaku, 1370 acres, was leased to P. O'Connor at 3d per acre per annum. Perpetual Leases. —The following perpetual leases were passed: —R. E. and J. W. Grieve, sec 10, block 14, Huiroa, upset Is; J. Campbell, sec 9, block 1, Ngatimaru. 9d; C. E. Gausted, sec 16, block 15, Waitara, Is.. Deferred Payment. — Sec 4, block 6, Kaupokonui, was granted to R/J. Lloyd, at an upset of 18s 9d. Total Area Sold. —The total area sold .was 2926 acres. Stratford Sections. — The Yen. Archdeacon Govett waited on tho Board with respect to getting the Board to put up some sections in Stratford that were needed for building a parsonage on. —The Board decided to revise the prices of all" unsold sections in Stratford attke next meeting of the Board. Perpetual Lease Transfers. — The following perpetual lease transfers were agreed to : —R. Drake, sec 1 and 2, block 3, Kaupokonui, to R. W. and C. Drake; E. Sach, sec 11, block 3, Hawera, to 'Mr F.. and W. Feild ; J. Currie, sec 6, block 15, Ngaire, to R. Fleming; J. Gibson, sec 7, blockf 10, Kaupokonui. to R. Gibson ; W. T. Ban-,' sec 6, block 3, Hawera, to A. Bissett. - ■ . Deferred Payment Transfers. — The appended deferred payment transfers were acceded to: —A. H. Perrot, sec 1, block 13, Kaupokonui, to A. J. Perrott; J, Schumacher, sec 6, block 7, Egmont, to J. M. Paterson; H. E. Eskrigge, sec 54, block 1, Huiroa, to A. E. Burwell. Conditional Transfer.—The Board will agree to the transfer of deferred payment sec 98, block 11, Kaupokonui, from executor of Jas Hayes to F. Cowern, on applicant lodging copy of probate. Capitalisations. — The Board agreed to the following capitalisations : — A. Baker, sec 28, block 1, Huiroa; R. Norrish, sec 18, block 2, Huiroa ; A. E. Perrctt, sec 78, block 10, Kaupokonui; H. W. Willans, sec 16, block 14, Opunake; E. A. Lament, sec 9, block 10, Waitara ; W. J. Laurent, boc 7, block 15, Waitara. Pungarehu. —Mr J. C. George waited on the Board with respect to the purchase of part of the Pungarehu reserve for ,butter factory purposes. —The consideration of the application was deferred till next meeting. Surrender.—The Board accepted the surrender from E. Batoman and G. Davies of lease of sec' 62, block 11, Opunake. si\6tices of Motion. —Mr Marchant gave notices of motion as under: —(l) "That the attention of the Government be drawn to the need for strengthening tho survey staff in this district in order that moro rapid progress may be made in meeting the great demand for land for settlementpurposes, which at present exists, and which is only likely to increase." (2) " That the Board represent to the Government the desirableness of either metalling the road to the Alan^aoro and Mangaotuku Blocks before sale, or of giving an assurance that the road will be .metalled within a reasonable time, as otherwise there will be danger that the land will be occupied in large holdings owing to the very great difficulty that settlers would experience in getting produce to the market, and the Board being strongly of opinion that the additional price obtainable for the land would fully recoup the outlay, in addition to the great gain that would accrue to the State from the presence of a body of settlers on the land." The Board adjourned.
