PUNIHO.

[FROM OUR OWN-CORRESPONDENT. J April 28. — The Puniho Literary Institute is proving a great institution in the district. On tbe first Wednesdaj' in April, Mr W. J. Wella, the president, discoursed on "Nothing" to the youths and adults present, giving botb some very useful advice and suggestions On Friday last a ball was given in the Warea Schoolroom, under the auspices of the Institute, and while all enjoyed themselves and praised the refreshments provided,- a substantial Bam was netted to assist the building fund, which now stands at about eight pounds, and is constantly increasing, so that probably at no distant date the hope of the Institute will be realized, and it will luxuriate in a. home of its own. A very sad accident happened to Mr Geo. Barr at the Funehu tollgate on Thursday afternoon. It appears some stray horses were galloping" along the road, and in order to stop them Mr Barr swung the gate too, bat the horses, instead of stopping, dashed into the gate, and threw it back into Mr Barr's head. He was rendered nnconscious, aod the neighbors found a large wound on the back of the skull. Di. Leatham came out on Saturday, and on Monday Mr Barr was taken to the hospital in New Plymouth. His sons now look after his store, and the tollgate. Luckily Mr Barr's farm is let. The wheel at Mr Bayly's mill has got so damaged as not to be able to work the strippers without damage. The work has now stopped, and the hands are now scotching up prior to knocking off for the winter. Other mills will shortly ease off, as it appears the supply of fl&x is running out, and until the new growth is ready the mills will have difficulty in getting supplies.
