Fitzgerald (Victoria), Mr Cockbnrne, Mr J. Brown (Tasmania), Mr H. J. Wixon (Victoria), and Mr Laws (Western Australia) said it was extremely unlikely Western Australia would agree to i Federation unless they could show an at- ! tempt would be made to improve the means of communication of the eastern colonies. The Convention then adjourned till next day.

Nominations for the Jubilee Sports close on Saturday. Particulars can be seen in advertisement. Mr Hutchison promised to give the subject his consideration. The Queensland Weather Bureau notify that the tropical disturbance which has occurred in the districts north of Brisbane ■will probably travel towards the North Cape of New Zealand. Before the banquet was held at Stratford on Tuesday night a deputation from tho electors of Midhirst waited on MiFelix McGuire, M.H. R;., and read an address. Mr Schumacher acted as leader of the deputation, and read the address. After congratulating Mr McGuire on his victory and expressing pleasure at the district entering into tho ranks of Liberalism, the address pointed out a number of local wants. Mr McGuire, in reply, thanked the deputation for the kind expressions conveyed in the address, and proniised to give tho questions contained therein his attention at the earliest. The deputation then withdrew.
