FIRE IN AUCKLAND. Auckland, January 20. The residence of Mr H. H. Lawry, Newmarket, was destroyed by fire last night. The greater part of the furniture was also destroyed. It was insured in the Hew Zealand for £600 on the House, and £300 on the furniture. The origin of the fire is unknown. ANOTHER CHUROH DEFAULTER. At the annual meeting of AH Saints' Anglican Church, last night, it was stated there was a deficit, amounting to £72, caused by the defalcations of D. F. Evans, a bankrupt, who recently departed for the Islands without consulting his creditors, after bankruptcy proceedings had been commenced. FALL IN VALUE OP NELSON PaOPEtITIiSS. Nelson, January 20. The Borough valuation this year is £60,300, or about £3000 less than the last. LITIGIOUS BLESHBIM. Blenheim, January 20. Writs claiming £600 damages have been served upon the proprietors and printer of the Christchurch Weekly t rew for an alleged libel that appeared in that paper in October last, referring to Frederick Thomas, the keeper of an accomodation house at "Wairau Valley, in connection with the death by drowning of one, George Lamb.
