COMMENCEMENT OF THE FIRING. THIS DAY. [PER PRESS ASSOOIATION.J Napier, January 20. — The weather at Puketapu is still very close, but this morning a cool breeze was blowing nearly across the range, but it should not, however, have any effect on the shooting. After Wednesday the shooting will commence at 7.30 a.m, and no match, except under very special circumstances, will be continued after five in the evening. In the event of disputed shots the markei • of the target on which the shot is disputed, shall, if the protest is not entertained, receive one shilling, and if on the contrary I he shall be fined one shilling. j The proposition with regard to sight shooting was considered by the Council on Monday night, when it was decided to allow the competitors to have the option of counting their sighters in the score for the first match,' and then submit the whole question again to the competitors for consideration. At this meeting the Rifle Cup 1891-92 will be given to the highest scorer for the last ten shots in the Championship. The men paraded at 9.30 a.m. to-day, and on arrival at the range a hollow square was formed. The honor of firing the first shot was conferred to Miss Heslop, the daughter of the owner of the land on which ' the range and camp is situated. The meeting was then declared open, and the Wellington match proceeded with.
