Melbourne, December 12. Johnston and Bis wife show signs of recovery. The Treasurer, Mr- Munro, in submitting the estimates for the yea:, said the Government proposed to float a loan of £2,450,000. In the meantime Treasury bills would be issued to the extent of one million, and these would be renewed' for six months if the loan were not floated. Mr Gillies, ex-Treasurer, accused Mr Mnnro of bringing out a sham deficit, by charging all possible items to expenditure without regard to recoupment, in order to swell the deficiency. Sydney, December 12. The Labor Commission has commenced its duties. The Secretary of the Coal Lumpers 1 Union was the first witness examined. He said that the stevedores were the chief cause of the trouble, and advocated the men dealing direct" with the employers.
