On May sth, 1860, Garibaldi sailed from Genoi with a body of 1000 men, whom hn had induced to volunteer to ats'st the Sicilians in their insu-rection against Francit If. On 10th May he effected a landing at Marsala, and assumed the title of Dictator of Sicily " in the name of Victor Emmanuel, Kinn of Italy." He took every town he attacked, and Victor Emmanuel having been proclaimed King of Italy on September 9th, idly wat annexed to it on December 28th.
