HABBOUR BOABD. THIS DAY.

The Harbour Board met on Wednesday. Present- Messrs T. King (Chairman), Shuttleworth, Paul, Corkill, Connett, Kyngdon, Mace, and Godsal. Legal Matters. — Mr Samuel, Solicitor to the Board, waited on the Board relative to Mr J. Haslett's lease of the beach, which the Petroleum Syndicate are working upon. He defined the Board's powers in respect of the lease. He submitted a memorandum of lease from the Harbour Board to the New Zealand Petroleum and Iron Syndicate, which memorandum was approved by the Board by a formal resolution. Mr Samuel also made explanations relative to Mr Oldfield's lease of Harbor Board plant for tbe purpose of removing the , Hawera wreck. He also made explanations about the continuations of Curriestreet through the reclaimed land ; and the question of harbor boundaries. He also spoke concerning the Kawau Pah. Plan of Harbor. — Mr Weetman, the Chief Surveyor, forwarded a tracery plan showing the result of the soundings taken on November 20, as compared with those taken on August Ist. Bondholder. — Mr Gilbert Fane, a bondholder, residing at Brighton, who wrote to the Board some time ago about the Board's default, and to whom the chairman wrote, explaining the Board's position, again wrote, under date September 25. He stated he had noted the chairman's remarks, and at another time he would write further to the chairman. He stated he was waiting to see what the New Zealand Parliament intended to do. Marine Department. — A letter -was received from the Marine Department, acknowledging the consent of the Board that the harbourmaster should be appointed an officer for the purpose of granting permits required by section 223 of "The Shipping and Seamen's Act, 1877," for the i carriage of deck cargo. Information. — Mr T. W. Adamson, of Rocky River, Uralla, New South Wales, wrote asking for information about a certain appliance the Board used for dredging. — The information has been supplied. Henting Buildings.— Mr Corkill, New Zealand manager of the Petroleum Syndicate, wrote deciding to rent the offices and buildings at the harbour on the terms offered by the Board. He also stated ho had insured the buildings for £150. Insubordination. — Mr Gilbanks, foreman of the works, waited on the Board and complained about the insubordination of one of the dredger hands.— The Board - decided, after discussion, to empower Mr Gilbanks to discharge the man, and take some one in his place. Dredging. — A discussion took place on the question of pushing on dredging operations, and the foreman was notified to make the most of the time in fine weather. BoatmerCt License. — Mr W. Bailey applied for a boatman's license. — The Board decided to issue a license on the approval of the harbormaster. Accounts. — The ordinary accounts were passed for payment. The Board adjourned.
