NARROW ESCAPE OF SHIP RANGITIKEI.

|PSB I'REhS ASSOCIATION.] Napier, November 19. — A tremendous easterly sea was rolling in all yesterday, which greatly increased by this morning. The weather was clear, with a stifl: southeast breeze blowing. At six o'clock the ship Rangitikei commenced to drag- her anchors. The local steamers Ahuriri and Fanny went to her assistance, and when attempting to tow her, she seemed from the shore to be holding. The E.M.S. Uimutaka dropped towards her, but the water was too shallow to allow of communication. The other vessels in the road stead are the ships Balchitha, Euterpe, Ahterion, and Ethelbert. The Rangitikei has on board 1000 bales of wool and a lot of tallow. The Harbor Board staff proceeded with the life saving apparatus to the Petane beach.

Later. — With the assistance of the Ahuriri and Fanny, the Rangitikei was towed out of danger and brought up to tho anchorage.

On Friday next the s.s. Gairloch will run an excursion trip from the breakwater to the fine steamer Matatua, anchored and loading frozen meat off tho Waitara river, returning to the breakwater about 2 p.m. The fare being very moderate, with line weather should ensure a big crowd for the outing. If inducement is sufficient, the steamer will run two trips.
