LEPPERTON.
[fkom oub own correspondent.] November 17. — Mr E. M. Smith addressed the electors at Lepperton on Tuesday last. There was a large number present, it being the best attended meeting of the three candidates. Mr Wakefield was voted to the chair. Mr Smith had his audience with him from start to finihh, and they must have enjoyed it from their continual applause. He was clear on the various points of policy, showing where great saving could be effected. He bhowed the way to reduce taxation, and how the farmer would be benefited by an influx of consumers and capital. By his excellent maps he gave a clear and simple, yet forcible, idea of the valuable mineral deposits of this district, and pointed out how the whole colony would be benefited by their being worked. Mr Smith paid a touching compliment to the memory of the late Colonel Lepper, who, he stated, gave him his first start in colonial life by appointing him as his armourer, when that gentleman was in command of the forces in this district. At the close Mr C. Lepper moved a hearty ■vote of thanks to Mr Smith for his able address, which was seconded by Mr Henwood, and carried unanimously. Mr Smith thanked tho electors, saying he Jelt proud of liis reception. A vote of thanks to the chair brought a most successful meeting to a close. — I am sure Mr Smith has many friends and supporters in and around this district,
