' Melbourne, November 5. — The bookmakers were heavily hit over Carbine's win. Hon. Mr Wallace won £25,000 in : wagers, whOe Mr Broadribb and Ramage, (who had the mount on Carbine), were also big winners. Rainage says he had the race in hand all the way, the necessity sever arising for the use of the whip or spur. Commenting on Highborn's - per- | formance, the Argus remarks that his j victory would have been a Cup disaster. |
