An important conference has taken place between the Premier, Mr J. M. Macßossan, and Mr Archibald Archer, representing the southern, northern, and central portions of the colony. It was decided to submit a resolution to the Legislative Assemby this session providing for a complete local autonomy, and for their forming State Legislatures comprising upper and lower Houses. The powers of the new States were not fully determined upon, but. they will include the control of lands, railways, and customs. Freetrade between the three States will be preserved. The Lieut.-Governors will be elected by the people, and will have power to veto any bills. The resolution, if agreed to by the Assembly, will be introduced in the form of a bill next session. The Australian Labour Federation issued a manifesto to the Queensland Unions, recommending its members to return to work. The opinion is expressed that it is hopeless to prolong the fight. The circular states that the committee endeavored to secure a simultaneous return to work throughout Australia, but their efforts in this direction were not unsuccessful. It concludes, "We came out pledged to stand together ; let as go back together, beaten but neither disbanded nor disgraced."
