Adelaide, September 2. Of the earliest sown and most promising wheat in the North-Eastern district hundreds of acres have been literally eaten down by the swarms of rabbits. Melbourne, September 2. Mr Dow, who leffc the Cabinet in consequence of his connection with the Premier Building Society, has been reappointed Minister of Lands. Mr Deakin becomes Solicitor-General, and Mr Patterson, in addition to Customs, takes the Postmaster-Generalship. The' Government steamer has bo 311 unable to find the rock on which the Carlisle was wrecked. The Minister of Public Works proposes to borrow a quarter of a million from the loan funds r in order to repair the main roads of the colony, which have suffered considerable damage from the recent phenomenal rains. The steamer Cuzco had a peculiar experience on her last voyage. After leaving Gibraltar- a tidal wave struck the vessel, sweeping" her decks and doing a large amount of damage. Nearly everyone on board was injured more or less, and some so seriously that they had to be landed at Naples. Many persons had limbs broken. ! A large derelict, keel upwards, has been sighted between Launceston and ' Port Phillip. j Sydney, September 1. Rev. Mr Gardiner has returned to Sydney to attend the Presbytery and to answer the charges brought against him. It is stated that he will probably appeal against the "decision of the Divorce Court, which granted a decree nisi to his wife. The Presbytery meets to-morrow. Sydney, September 2. Kemp emphatically declines to row anyone until after the match with O'Connor. Walker's sawmill at Balmain has been destroyed by fire. The damage is estimated' at £8000.
