BARRICADING SYDNEY WHARVES.

Sydney, September 2. — The Government are erecting barricades on the Peninsular Co.'s wharf. The men on strike are much incensed at this action, and the Labour Defence Committee has written to the Government that they will not be responsible for the action of the men. The proceedings at the Miners' Conference are being conducted privately. CREW REFUSES TO LEAVE VESSEL. \ The crews of the steamers Taieri and Tarawera have been discharged. Tho Ohau's crew refuse to leave the vessel, and Mararoa's crew have refused duty. The shipment of fish by the latter vessel has been landed. MARINE OFFICERS' ASSOCIATION. The new Mercantile Officers' Association is making substantial headway, and is not allied with any other labour organisation. It is oxpected that the members of this Association will receive precedence in filling up vacancies caused by the present crisis. '■ SHIPPING TRADE OF AUSTRALIA. The Tasmanian Steam Navigation Cora- : panjr now has the Melbourne and Tasmanian trade in its own hands, and the Australian United Steam Navigation Company have the Sydney and Queensland trade, while Melbourne traffic is at a standstill. Both Howard Smith's and Messrs Huddart Parker & Co.'s fleets aro wholly laid up, FREE CREWS WORKING VESSELS. The Tasmanian S.N. Company and the Australian S.N. Company are working their boats slowly by ineaus of free crews, and it is expected that during the week most of the other Companies will resume under similar conditions. As each vessel's complement is made up they are to bo despatched. ANOTHER STRIKE IN MELBOURNE. Melbourne, September 2. — The wharf labourers working the s.s. Monowai have been called out, consequent on tho Union Company deciding to employ free labour. MORE THAN LARRIKINS AT WORK. | Larrikins have set fire to a shed erected J by free labourers at Collingwood. Freights, were raised another 25 per cent, to-day.
