THE BUSH BURNING PETITION

TO I HE! BDIfOA.

. Sir, — I have just read the Petition that has been left in town for signature, praying that the law relative to burning felled bush should be altered in such a manner that settlers would be allowed to burn without fear of consequences for a month or six weeks, and I wish- through your columns to direct the attention of my fellow-settlors to the great scope such an alteration would give to neighbors to gratify, malice, or revenge any wrongs, real or. imagined, also to the damage that might bo caused by careless men who are at present made thoughtful by thei fear of the law. The petition does not state by whom the time for burning should be fixed, and arranging a time that would suit all parties, and the state of the weather too would be- another difficulty. To contend with those are many hardships utdqr the present law, but giving settlers a month or six weeks to burn bush without fear of consequence*, would, in my opinion, only increase them. — I am, &c, Pine Bug.
