HAWERA.

[FBOM OUR OWN CORBBBPONDKNT.7 July 8. — There has evidently been a bungle made by the authorities in New Plymouth, as a largo parcel of land at the back of Hawera lately sold and settled is without means of access, the selectors having to travel for about two miles through private property. It appears that the road has been made at each end, but for about two miles through the Whareroa Reserve there is nothing to show that a road exists. There are many settlers and intending settlers unacquainted with tortuous paths leading through private property, and they are thereby subjected to great loss of time and inconvenience. These people loudly complain that the Government should offer land for settlement, and place intending settlers in the position of trespassers for ! the purpose of obtaining access to the same. A meeting is to be held Bhortly to discuss the question of opening up for traffic Hawera'sEast Road. It is partly formed, and runs in almost a straight line inland from Hawera. Should the project prove successful — and there is no reason that it should not — Hawera tradespeople can look forward to increased prosperity, as the tract of country that this road runs through is some of the richest in our fertile province. This is the road mentioned in the above paragraph. Great perplexity prevails as to the boundaries of the Taranaki electorates, as the population since the last census was taken has considerably increased. It would be only fair that before another general election takes place the fresh census should be taken, when the present boundaries could be altered, and so . save a deal of annoyance to the electors
