DUNEDIN SPRING MEETING. [PUB PBESH AnHOUIATION. | Dunedin, June 9. — The Jockey Club have increased their stakes atthe Spring Meeting, which will be three days in future, to 13,200, and tbe Autumn Meeting to £3,500. Those who indulge in rinking are reminded that the Alexandra Hall will be open on Tuesday night, under the auspices of the band. Ladies are also reminded that the Hall will be open in the afternoon from 3 to 5 o'clock for them to practise. Two of three swans that left the lake in the Recreation Grounds when it was drained in connection with the murder of Maloney, were brought into town by Mr Adlain this (Monday) morning, but one wa« dead. It appears that a settler, Mr C. Crisp, at Cape Egmont, saw the birds, and captured them, but in the hunt one swan received injuries from a dog which caused death. Tbe third swan has not been heard of yet. The recent heavy and continuous rains have caused " freshes" in all th . rivers in the district. On Sunday the water in many was running almost level with the banks. A great deal f firewood carried down by the flooded rivers has been deposited on the beach. I
