Mr Gillies does not attach any credit to the Press cable message received a few days ago stating that it was probable that the proportion of recidivistes sent to New Caledonia would be considerably increased. Sir Graham Berry has special instructions to cable any contemplated action on the part of France with regard to ~New Caledonia that is an- j nounced, but he (Mr Gillies) has not i yet received any official information on the subject.
