RAHOTU.
[from an occasional correspondent.] June 7. — A meeting of the School Committee waß held on Wednesday evening. Present: Mrs Dougherty, Messrs Anderson, Dew, Morgan, Saunders, and Chapman (chairman). The business consisted ot choosing a teacher (Mr Kenneth McDonald being the successful candidate), and in settling a question as to the right of one | of the Committee to sit. It was unanimously resolved that the Education Board be requested to take no further notice of the matter. Mr Wright has let the contract of rebuilding his burnt mill to Mr Baker, of Opunake, and mill work will be resumed in a few weeks, as the workmen begin on Monday. This will be good news to the hands who were formerly employed, and who will have the " first show " of a job. The new mill will be called the " Phoenix/ At the cattle sale here on Thursday cattle sold better than they have done for the past twelve months, all descriptions except milkers being well competed for, but it is unfortunate that the late spurt down the coast has entirely died down, and cattle there are at their old prices, beef excepted, which is £1 to £2 a head better than last year.
