KENT ROAD.

[from our own correspondent.] May 28.— 0n Whit Monday (May 26) a miscellaneous entertainment was given by the New Plymouth Temperance Band, in the Lower Kent Road school. The attendance was very satisfactory. By request, Mr Arrowßrnith took the chair. The programme, which consisted of twenty items, was very creditably carried out. The band performed many selections, and some of the members, notably Mr E. Howell gave instrumental solos. Mr Gilbert, the Misßes Asher, Howell, and Lister sang various songs, which were well received. Mr E. Chatterton, the Misses Howell and Nodder gave suitable recitations. Mr J. Roberts gave selections on a tin whistle in a manner worthy of a better instrument. Mr Williams and his talented daughter, Miss Williams (the former on the 'cello and the latter on the violin), gave two choice morceaux, with great applause, and this musical pair were in themselves a tower of strength to the entertainment. After a few words from the Chairman the proceedings closed. Great credit must be given to Mr E. Howell for the musical training of these young bandsmen, and without doubt a bumper will roward another visit to this district, usually so barren of amusement.
