TARANAKI POULTRY ASSOCIATION.

TO THE HDIIOL.

Sir, — I see a letter in your issue of April 24, on the above subject, and as I have been a breeder for many years, it wsa with a feeling of pleasure that I heard of the formation of the association, I was glad to see that your correspondent had decided to go in for tho improvement of his stock, and as there are n«w so many varieties to select from he should not be long in getting what ho requires. I have seen some very nice breeds of birds in the district but most of thorn are allowed to mix up with a lot of common fowls, so that in a short time the breed is losfc or they got inbred and so are deteriorated in size and egg production. In speaking of egg production let me say that in choosing any breed for eggs, mind and pick those fowls that have large combs. Itisasure sign of plenty of eggs no matter whether it is single or rose comb; and mind it is large. With reference to the judges it is very important that they should be practical breeders, as to getting them from outside the district that is a question for the Committee, for it will bo some expense to get them from a distance. If it was possible it would give the exhibitors more coniidence, and I for ono would much prefor a stranger, as there would then be i o fear of favouritism. Trus ng that there will be a show during the coming winter. — I am, &c, Fancier.
