ANNUAL MEETING OF THE ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of the Acclimatisation Society was held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday night. Present : Messrs J. Panl, J. Knyvett, L. Hamerton, A. Morton, W. L. Newman, and Dr. O'Carroll. Mr Paul was ducted to the chair.

Annual Report. — Mr W. L. Newman, the hon. sec, reported, " From the statement of accounts laid before the meeting this evening, it will be found tho receipts for the past year including balance brought forward from lust year are £118 3s 3d and the expenditure £63 11s, leaving a balance in hand of £54 12s 3d. The chief aim of the Society for the past year has been to quickly carry on the work of stocking the streams of the district with fish, the principal portion of which have been obtained from tho Masterton hatcheries, and liberated in the following rivers : — Tapuau, Oukimi, Timaru, llenui, and Waiwakaiho. Tho Society bi-g to thank Mr G. Brown of: Canterbury, for a present of humble bees. With regard to the date of the opening of the shooting season, it appears a majority of the Societies in the North Island are desirous that native game should have a slight respite, hence the Government have gazetted the season for taking both native and imported game to be from May Ist to July 31, 1890."— The report was adopted after some little discussion. Election of Ofkickrs. — The following officers weie elected for the ensuing year : — Chairman, Mr J. Paul ; hon. sec. and treasurer, Mr W. L. Newman ; Committee, Dr O'Carroll, Messrs. Knyvett, C. W. Govett, Corkill, A. Morton, and Hainerton.

A general discussion of a conversational character took place after this, but no resolutions wore arrived at.
