The Te Whiti-ites arc active again, and are collecting food and supplies for a great meeting near Manaia. The Hawera Star says Te Whiti at present ia supposed to be at rest, so the mantle of the great Prophet is at present on Tohu shoulders. It is commonly asserted among those who are conversant with the mental attitude of the Maoris, that so far from Te Whiti having lost influence through his recent imprisonment for debt, he has added to his " mana " by his submission to the indignity. At a special meeting of the Hibernian Australian Catholic Benefit Society held on Thursday night, universal regret was expressed by the members at the departure of Dr. Gault, the medical officer of the Lodge. All the brothers who spoke expressed their .sincere regret at his having to leave the place, and also bore testimony to the able, skilful, and courteous manner with which Dr. Gault f had performed his duties. A resolution was unanimously passed instructing the chief officers of the Lodge to draw up a testimonial to the doctor, expressing sincere regret at his departure, and wishing him prosperity in his future career. We understand that W. W.Christie, M.D., C.M.L.M., lately from England, has been appointed to fill Dr. Gault's position. Dr Christie is, we learn, a nephew of Mr Christie of the Bank of New Zealand at Patea. The Egmont Lodge of Odd Fellows at their meeting on Monday, and Court Taranaki, A.0.F., at their meeting on Wednesday, passed similar resolutions, and the members at all the lodges spoke in the highest praise of Dr. Gault, expressing their sincere regret and his departure.
