The s.s. Gairloch is detained at Manukau through bad weather. She leaves Onehunga to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock for breakwater sailing from there for Onehunga as advertised. Mr H. J. De Forest, a Canadian artist who is on a sketching tour through New Zealand, is now in New Plymouth, where he will remain for a few days. He has been in the colony about two years, having travelled up from the south, taking sketches of all the most picturesque spots he came across, He has on exhibition at Mr W. A. Collis' several pictures and sketches. He has views of Mount Cook, the Manawatu Gorge, Mount Egmont, from Normanby. and several other places. The pictures and sketches are very artistic productions and will repay a visit of inspection. We flave to acknowledge the receipt of an almanac from the Victorian Insurance Company, for which Mr P. C. Mortion is the Taranaki Agent. A cricket match between teams representing the single and married members of the New Plymouth Club was being played on the racecourse thia (Thursday) afternoon. At a meeting of the committee, appointed to help raise funds for the Band on New Year's Day, held on Wednesday night, the balance-sheet showed that a nett profit of £75 4s 6d had resulted t'roin the picnic, concert, and contributions. Votes of tnanks were passed to the ladies who assisted and contributed, and to all others who aided at the picnic and concert. The Committee are now considering how to raise another £25 in order to bring the amount up to £100. Many a mother feels thankful that she used Renshaw's " Monarch of Pain" for her little one when it suffered from Bronchitis. — Adv.
