The Miners' Conference at Newport lias postponed its decision with regard to the Eight Hours Bill, which it has been decided to refer back to the districts interested. COLLIERS DEMAND INCREASED PAY. The colliers have intimated to the colliery proprietors that in January next they will demand an increase of ten per cent, in wages. The owners have decided not to accede to the request, and a strike is immient. LAUNCH OF PELORUS. H.M.S. Pelorus, one of the Australian Squadron, was launched on Tuesday. At the suggestion of Sir Saul Samuel the names given to the cruisers will be changed. LATE CLUB 'SCANDAL. Mr Parke, editor of the North London Press, charged by Earl Enston with libel, has been liberated on bail. The hearing of the case has been adjourned. COPPER MARKET. The copper market is almost bare, owing to large German purchases for gun-making. VICTORIAN LOAN. The brokers and bankers stronglj oppose the new Victorian loan, as the last loan issued by that colony is not yet absorbed. SHIPPING FROM THE HUMBER. Owing to the strike among the dock laborers, a section of the Australian shippers are arranging to send exports from Grimsby docks, near the mouth of the river Humber, Lincoln. COLONIAL DEFENCES. In the course of an interview with a representative from the Pall Mail Gazette, Admiral Fairfax, in referring to colonial defences, expressed the opinion that good work had been done by Victoria and New Zealand, Queensland had been apathetic, and New South Wales was deserving of censure for tardiness in regard to placing her defences on a proper footing. He considered that if New South Wales joined the Federated Council the latter body would be able to develope the federal system of defence. ANOTHER STRIKE. In consequence of foreigners being engaged in British ships at Bristol, seven thousand dock laborers have gone out on strike. ANOTHER ESCAPE OF PRINCE ALBERT VICTOR. Madras, November 28. During an elephant drive at Mysore, a city of Southern India, to-day, Prince Albert Victor was charged by one of the quadrupeds, and narrowly escaped being killed. A fortnight ago the Prince met with ft couple of accidents during the reception at Poonah.
