MINGLEWOOD.

[FROM OIK OWN CORRKSPONDGNT.] November 29. — The fires in the Moa District are doing a considerable amount of damage. Mr H. Turner, of Junction Road, had about 15 chains of fencing burnt. Mr S. P. Kidd has had 100 newly cut posts burnt; Mr W. Howell, of Norfolk Road, had nearly the whole of the fencing which surrounds his farm burnt, and most of his grass destroyed. It was with great difficulty that he managed to keep his dwelling from meeting the same fate. Colonel Trimble's people had to remain up all last night doing their utmost to keep the fire down. Some of the outbuildings contiguous to the dwelling house had got j on fire. I fear there is a great deal more j damage done than I know of at present, j and should the wind continue to blow as j at present, there will be extensive damage done, as there are fires all about the district. Mr G. S. Kennedy has added a building 36ft by 16ft to his forge and workshop, which is 30ft by 24ft, where he is carrying on the business of wheelwright, coachbuilding and vehicles of all kinds made and repaired. He has lately returned from England, bringing with him tools of the latest designs, such as punching, welding, shearing, upsetting, and numerous other newly invented machines of various kinds which are necessary for the construction of solid workmanship.
