The stevedores o[ the General Steam Navigation Company, under pressure of the lightermen, have struck, demanding 7d per hour during the day and 9d per hour overtime. The Company replied that it was impossible to comply with the demand in the view of competition from abroad and at British outports, and declared that the strike had already alienated a formidable amount of trade. Subsequently, being everywhere blocked, the Company conceded the demand. SIR H.JAMES ON PARNELL.
