London, November 12. j The iron market continues excited, and the best Scotch pig, f.0.b., is quoted I at 64s : Middlesborough No. 3, G7s ; Hematite, 775. STEVEDORES ON STRIKE. The stevedores o[ the General Steam Navigation Company, under pressure of the lightermen, have struck, demanding 7d per hour during the day and 9d per hour overtime. The Company replied that it was impossible to comply with the demand in the view of competition from abroad and at British outports, and declared that the strike had already alienated a formidable amount of trade. Subsequently, being everywhere blocked, the Company conceded the demand. SIR H.JAMES ON PARNELL. Before the Parnell Commission, to-day, Sir Henry James, one of the leading counsel for The Times, commented in strong terms on Parnell's base and dishonorable deception of the House of Commons, and the violent outburst of boycotting in the South of Ireland. SKETCHES OF AUSTRALIAN COABT. The Royal Colonial Institute have purchased 107 of Westall's sketches of Australian Coast, taken during the voyage of Flinders in Australian waters. COODE ON COLONIAL ENGINEERING Sir John Coode, in addressing the Institute of Civil Engineers, eulogised the works being carried on in the Colonies, and said there was room there for continuous progress of science and practice for engineers. CHAIRMAN OF LONDON COUN IL. The Earl of Rosebery has been reelected Chairman of the London County Council. LIGHTERMEN'S STRIKE. Lord Brassey considers that the masters are pledged to make one job one night's work so far as the lightermen are concerned.
