The President of the Legislative Council has drawn up a memorandum in connection with tbe amendment made to the Payment of Members Bill, in whioh he decides that the amendment does not violate the Constitution Act, as it does not deal with the appropriation of publio revenue or an imposition of taxation.
Evidence as to the sanity of the man Weaver, who shot Captain Greenlees, of the sohooner Colonist, at Havannah Harbor, is being taken before a special Commission, and will be forwarded to Fiji, where the man is in custody.
At the inquest into the accident at tbe Glebe pit, the jnry found that it was due to weakness of the pillars supporting the roof. The jury added a rider censuring Sharp, the overseer, for not calling the men out when falls from the roof were first reported.
