It is understood that a deadlock has arisen in connection nith the appointment of tbe Primate of Australia. The Bishops of New South Wales struck out the names of the Bey. Mr. Glynne Moule, of Oxford, and Canon Smith, of Birkenhead, consequently they are unable to remit two candidates to the Bishops of Australia for final seleotion. The Anglican Synod meets next month to take fresh aotion. In the meantime the ultra-Protestant section are making efforts to remove the Primacy away from New South Wales, aud permit the Bishops to eleot one of their cwn number to aot as Primate.
The House of Assembly has passed the Land Bill.
Newoastlk, Jnly 24. A nautioal enquiry was held to-day into the sinking of the steamer Afghan while loading coal at Newcastle. The Oourt held that the accident was due to negligence in leaving a valve open, and suspended the certificate of the first engineer for six months, and the second for twelve months,
An exploration in the Glebe mine, where the roof collapsed, has been resumed.
