OENTRAL SCHOOL ENTERTAINMENT.
A THOROUGH SUCCESS. Ah enjoyable entertainment was given in the Alexandra HaU c ou Thursday night by the Central School ptpils, f or the purposa of raisiag* funds to purchase a large school bell. The house was' comfortably filled, and the lengthy programme was carried oat in a manner that reflected great credit on the teachers who , trained the pupils. The programme, whioh consisted of recitations, choruses, singing, instrumental musio, debates, etc., was reoeived by the audience with much approbation, and deservedly so for the little ones aoquitted themselves right well. The object of the entertainment was achieved, for we learn from Mr Dempsey, the headmaster, on Thursday night that the total receipts were £26, and the expenses were estimated at about £9, so that there should be a surplus of something like £17. The " Welcome Chorus,',' by seven girls, w«s well reoeived, and a recitation proclaiming welcome from each of the girls followed. Three items in the programme given by infants were gone through with a precision that was generally remarked for ones so yonng, An instrumental duet, " The Bluebells of Scotland," and the recitation " A Women of Mind," were heartily applauded. A chorus " The Blaokamith," in which about fifty boys with caps on and sleeves rolled up, with hammer and anvil, waß a very pleasing item, and the same may be laid of " The Daya of the Week," recitation by seven girls. The debate on emigration by thirteen boys was considered tbe gam of the evening. A piano solo, aud an auction scene, were two items that met with applause. The song, "Three Old Maids of Lee," called forth an encore whioh wob responded to. A recitation, " Rustic Logic," was well given, and " The Dollb' Tea Party " was a pleasing item, pourtraved by seven little girls. The oborus, "Catoh the Sunshine," and an instrumental duet by two very little girls were pleasantly rendered. The singing of the National Anthem brought a most enjoyable entertainment to a close.
