(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] POOR WELLINGTON IN DISTRESS. Wellington, September 20. In consequence of au overdraft of £600, the Benevolent Society have had to apply to the Government for aid, the chairman stating that tbo people had come to him for bread, and he had bad to refuse it. The Government are considering whether tbe Booiety Bhall be allowod to draw auffioient money to carry on until tbe rates on the country districts, which hate refused to levy, oould be raised through tbe Property Tax Department.
