DEATH OF MR. W. NORTHCROFT. Tnanewsottbe death oi: Mr William Northcroft, an old resident of New Plymouth, will be heard with much regret by all who knew him. Up till within a week ago, to outward appearance, he had exhibited no Bigns of ill health, although he had aged more daring the last twelve months than was noticeable previously. The complaint to which he finally succumbed was not, however, ono that would show itself, and the doceased gentleman, we hear, passed away quietly and without puin. Mr Northcroft was born in the year 1807, and consequently attained the age of 81 years. He was by profession an architect and surveyor, and was in active practice in England till the yenr 1852, when he emigrated to Now Zealand. He conducted the business of the Council and held office for four years under the superinten'loncy of Mfijor Brown. At the next Provincial election, in 1865, he was again returned for the sumo constituency, and wns reappointed Provincial S^crelnry. On September 7, 1865, Mr Northcroft wns appointed Deputy Superintendent dining Mr H. R. Richmond's absence from the Province. In March of tho following year it wan decided by the Provincial Council that un Exectitivo should bo nppointerl to aot wilh tho Superintendent, and bu rfcnponaiblo to the Couucil.
