STEAMER WAVERLEY ASHORE AT PATEA.

The small twin-screw steamer Waverley, which plys regularly between Wellington and Patea, went ashore at the mouth of the latter port at 3 p.m. on Thuisday, while trying to make the river entrance. A heavy sea must have caught her and carried her round 'tho breakwater or training wall on tho south side of the river mouth, for a telegraphic message stated that she was carried ashore just behind tho wall, where she was left high and dry (on the tide receding, no doubt). There were 90 tons or so of cargo on board.

A Press Association telegram from Wellington Bays :—: — Information has been received here that tho steamer Waverley has gone ashore at Patea. She loft here with a full general cargo, and in attempting to take the bar took the ground, where she remained fast. The work of discharging her is proceeding, and it is expocted the vessel will float off to-day (Friday).
