CLIFTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

Tee usual monthly meeting of the Clifton County Council was held on Wednesday, October sth. Present: Messrs. T. Bayly (chairman), J. Bayly, T. Elliot, L. Sarten, and J. Pigott.

Correspondence sent. — Copies of letters sent to the following were read : — To the manager Lyttelton Times office ; to the Taranaki Hospital ai»d Charitable Aid Board ;to the Government Printer, WelPugton; to the Property Tax Commissioner, and tbe Colonial Secretary.

Valuation of Block of Land. — A letter was read from tbe Property Tax Deportment, stating that the Council could fix a fair valuation on the part of Pohohura Blook, 13,200 acres, owned by Thomas Bayly. — The Chairman stated that as he was interested he would vacate the chair while the Council were fixing the valuation. — Mr. Pigott was voted to the chair. It was proposed by Mr. Sabtjsn, seconded by Mr. Eleiot, " That the Council revalue that portion of Pohokura Block in the Clifton County, viz., 13,200 acres (more or lesB), at 2s an acre for rating purposes.' — Carried.

Balance' sheet. — The balance-sheet for the yeac ending 31st March, 1887, was read as audited by the auditor. — It was proposed by Mr. Elliot, seconded by Mr. Pigott, " That the balance-sheet as read be adopted."— Carried.

Rate on Native Land. — A letter was road from the Treasury, Wellington, stating that the sum of £108 4s 7d, rates on native lands for the year 1886-7, bad been transmitted to the credit of the Council at the Bank of New Zealand, Waitara.

Deferred Payment Money, — A letter was read from the Crown Lands Office, New Plymouth, stating the sum of £2 19a 5d was at the Council's credit in the Treasury, and asking the Council to send in a schedule as to the proposed expenditure of the money. — It was resolved that the Clerk send" in the schedule of proposed expenditure to the Lund Board. General Election. — A circular was read froin^ the Colonial Secretary proposing to I put off the geieral election to the 16th November, instead of the 9th, if the Council were agreeable. — The Chairman replied that on behalf of the Council he bad written stating that the Council were agreeable to tbe alteration of date. Valuing Land on Rate Boole. — It was proposed by Mr. Sabten, seconded by Mr. Pigott, " That the following sections be valued as under for rating purposes, viz., sections 3, 4, 5, 9, 17, 21, and 22, block 4, ■Waitara survey district, at £4 an acre; sec 8, blook 1, Waitara survey district, £19 lump; sco 16, block 4, £3 an acre; sec 26, block 4, £3 an acre; and 25 acres at Obanga at. £3 an acre." — Carried. Credit Balance. — The treasurer reported that £46 7s 4d was to the credit of the the Council at bank to date. Metalling portion of North Road. — It was proposed by Mr. Sabten, seconded by Mr. Elmot, " That tenders be called for the metalliug of 18 chains more or less of the North Road, from H. Faull'a corner notthwards." Ayes (3): T. Bayly, T. Elliot, and L. Sarten. Noes (2): J. Pigott and J. Bayly. — Carried,

General Election. — It was proposed by Mr. Pigott, seconded by Mr. Saetbn, " That the polling places, if required, be as follows: -Far the Tikorangi riding, tbe Tikorangi hall; for the Mokau riding, at the Post-office, Urenui," — Carried.

Road to Recreation Ground, Waitara. — Mr. T. Elliot applied on behalf of the Town Board for permission to make a road to tbe Recreation Ground, and also asked tbe Council to refund the rates towards making and maintaining the road. — It was resolved " That the Council agree to Mr. Elliot's request, and that the rutes in future be refunded to the Town Board."

Accounts. — It was proposed by Mr. Sarten, seconded by Mr. Elliot, "That the accounts as read, amounting to £41 le 3d, be passed for payment."— Carried. Tbe Council rose.
