LES CLOCHES DE CORNEVILLE

THE LAST PERFORMANCE. The favorite opera, Les Cloches, was played in the Alexandra Hall for the third and last time on Friday night, by the Amateur Opera Club to a moderate, but appreciative audience. The parts of Germaine (Miss E. Cottier), Serpolette (vJiss Teed), Marquis (Mr. C. King), Baillie (Mr. T. Rennell), Grenicheux (Mr. Churton), Gobo (Mr. Rogers), and GasparlS (Mr. Beane), were all well taken, . Floral recognitions, in the form of bouquets, were received by the two first named, and Gobo received what appeared, from the body of the hall, to be h similar favor, and the Baillie, about the same time, got what looked like a roll of manuscript. The'choruses were effectively sung, and tbe orchestra contributed greatly to the enjoyment of the evening by their excellent playing. Mr. George Garry conducted in bis usual able manner. The receipts were £17 odd. As this is the last performance of this opera by the Club, the costumes and scenery are to be sold to the Dunedin Olub, should they suit, for £30, or £10 less than was given for them. In speaking of selling the costumes it ifa not meant thereby that all costumes are included, but only what belong to the club; none of the ladies 1 dresses are included, they all being private property. The Dunedin Club offer cash if the costumes and scenery suit, but should it be otherwise they state they will pay freight on the goods both ways. It is not known yet if the Club intend to stage another piece this year.
