Hanoi Lawn Tennis Clab has postponed its annual meeting for the present. A correspondent of the Christchnrch Press, at the Chatham Island writes:— "This island is peculiarly situated, as it is one of the habited points of the globe where the day of the week change. It is just in the line of demarcation between dates. Here high 12 on Sunday or noon ceases, and instantly Monday meridian begins, Sunday comes into our house on the east side and becomes Monday by the time it passes out at the western door. We sit down to our noonday dinner on the Sunday, and it is Monday before we finish it." Captain Moreland (who married Miss Fanny Carandini), presented a Jubilee address and casket of jewels from India to the Queen, and has been knighted. For the quarter ending June 30 1887, the number of schools in the Taranaki Educational District was 35, the number of teacherß 66, and the average attendance of children, 1873. The number of children on the roll up to that date was 2473. As soon as the defeat of Mr. Bryce is definitely known, it is proposed to send the following telegram, to which will be | annexed a large number of signatures of T ocal residents, to him : — As members of 1 community which owes much to the wisdom and firmness displayed by you during your term of office as Native Minister, wo beg to express our sense of the loss which New Zealand sustains by yonr absence from her Parliament."
