SCRUTINY OF THE NEWTON VOTES. [PEK PBESS ASSOCIATION.} Auckland, September 29. — It is reported that at the declaration of the Newton poll the Hon. Mr. Tole's committee will demand a scrutiny of the votes. HON. MR. TOLE OFFERED A SEAT. A newly-elected member for one of the Auckland country seats offered this morning to retire in the Hon. Mr. Tole's favor, but the latter has declined the offer. MINISTERS ON THEIR WAY TO WELLINGTON. Cheistchubch, September 29. — Sir R. Stout, Mr. Reynolds, and Mr. Larnach arrived at Lyttelton this morning. They were loudly cheered at the Chriatchureh station. Some 300 appeared, and cheered Sir R. Stont, and drew his carriage to the hotel. Sir R. Stout said the widespread sympathy he had received waa evidence of the formation of what he might term New Zealand public opinion. SIR R. STOUT'S DEFEAT. Dunhdik, September 29.— Sir R. Stout has received telegrams from Major Atkinson and other leaders of the Opposition sympathising with him ia losing his Beat. Major Atkinson urged him to reconsider his decision to retire. UPSETTING AN ELECTION. Dpnedin, September 29. — Mr. Brown's return for Tuapeka is to be petitioned against, on the ground of alleged irregularities at Waitahuna.
