AN ALMOST FORGOTTEN TRAGEDY REVIVED.

11 MURDBft WILL OUT."

While Herbert Lyons was cutting firewood in Turnbull's bush, East Koad, near Inveroargill, last Saturday, be came across what were unmistakably human remains. Tne police were immediately communicated with, and Constable Ferguson proceeded to and thoroughly examined the spot. He found the boneß of a human skeleton, besides an elastic boot, the buckles of a pair of braces, and some clothing in an advanced state of decay. The size and forms of the boneß indicate that they are those of a fullydeveloped adult. The body must have lain there for many years. There was nothing to point to the identity of the deceased or tbe cause of death.

The finding of the remains has brought to tbe recollection of " old identities," a mysterious disappearance which took place about 25 years ego. This was a man known aB "Yankee Clark," a bnshmnn, who lived in a hut somewhere in the locality. It is impossible, from tbe appearance of the remains, to say how long they have been lying where they were found, bat examinations by professional men would , no doubt, determine the ,sex and the probable age of the deceased. The supposition at the time was that Olark, who was believed to have bad a considerable sum of money in his possession, had come to his end by foul play, and various surmises as to the perpetrator or perpetrators were in circulation after his disappearance.
