MAINTENANCE OF COUNTY ROADS. THIS DAY.
After the minutes of the previous meeting had been read at the County Council on Wednesday, Mr. MoGbegob moved, "That tenders be called. at per cubic yard for the Bupply and delivery of metal for the maintenance of the county roads." He had planned ont the roads into sections, which were specified on a plan.
Mr. Kelly seconded the motion, and Bpoke in favour of the system. After some discussion the i ouncil went into Committee, when the following sections were aproved of : — South Road : Section 1, from New Plymouth to Tapaae River, 6 miles 31 chains ; section 2, Tapuae river to Timaru river, 5 miles 18 chains; section 3, from Timaru river to Stony river, 4 miles 75 chains; section 4, from Stony river to Warea river, 4 mileß 74 chains; Bection 5, from Warea river to Te Pungarere river, 6 mileß 76 chains; section 6, from Pungarere river to Okaweu, 6 miles 47 chains; section 7, from Okaweu to Tanngatara, 5 miles 51 chains. North Road : Section 1, from New Plymouth to Waitaha, 4 miles 34 chains; section 2, from Waitaba to boundary of Clifton County, 5 miles 25 chains. Junction Road:/ Section 1, from New Plymouth to Mangamahoe, 6 miles; section 2, from Mangamahoe to Inglewood, 5 miles 24 chains. Mountain Road : Section 1, from Aiken Head to Ngatoro, 7 miles 19 chains ; section 2, from JSfgatoro to York Road, 7 miles ; section 3, from Kafaore to Oouaty boundary, 2 miles 70 chains, is to be kept in order by the Council's stone crusher. The term of the contracts was to be per year, the present employees to receive one month's notice from October Ist, so us to allow of tenders under the new system to be called for on November Ist. The plan was being further considered in Committee at the adjournment.
