A respectable man in Sydney recently got fourteen days for breaking a photographer's glass show case. The accused had left the hospital in a destitute state, and being unable to find work, went to th« Police Station in a starving condition. He offered to give himself up, but the sergeant told him he could not be arrested unless he committed some offence. The accused then went away and broke the show case.
The following story is told by a Southern paper :— " Just as we were going to press last week, a slip was passed into the composing room bearing the ■words, 'Room must be found for this — we want it sot up very badly/ Inside of three minutes the copy came back with a gocond endorsement in one of the P.D.s scrawls — ' Can't be done. Nothing is ever set up badly in this office.' That boy has a future before him, but we regret to say that a heavy boot, inhabited by a large and muscular foot, overtook that future, and the boy has not been able to sit down all the week."
