EDUCATION RESERVES BOARD.

The School Commissioners met on Friday. Present: Messrs. T. King (chairman), Bauohope, Humphries, and Parris.

Town Lease.— Alfred Wills applied for n twenty-ono years' lease of section 498, Devon-street, at 15s per year. — M. Pabbis moved, seconded by Mr. Bauchope, "That the offer be accepted, and that tho seal of tho Board bo affixed to the lease in the usual way." — Carried. Tender declined.— -Tho tender of William Russell for sections 332 to 334 and 358 to 36C, on Outfield Road and Fulford-street, at <>1 for seven years, was declined. House in Bad State. — Edward Pratt wrote stating that the house on the education reserve near Eliot-Btreet station was m bad .epair, and would take £13 to make it habitable, and much more to put it in go:> 7 repair.— No action was taken. Tenders Def erred. — J. D. Pope applied for a lease of a piece of land situated in Wallaoe Place, comprising three acres, more or less, with dwelling house thereon, fora term of 21 years, oto. William Bullot and Edward Mooro also applied for tha same land for a term of 21 years, etc. The accepting of a tender was postponed until Messrs. Bauchope and Humphries had examined the property. Perpdtual Leases.— The following leases wero accepted: S. W. Ralfe, sec. 57, block 1, Ngaire, at Is 6d per acre per annum ; Claru England, sec. 29, blosk 14, Ngaire, at 2s 6dper acre ; Mary Phipps Coleman, sec 14, block 13, Ngaire at 2s. Insurance.— Mr. R. G. Bauchope wrote, as agont for South British Co., intimating that thepolioy of insurance on the cottage on seo. 198, New Plymouth, was due on September 7th, and intimating his willing- ' ness to renew. — It waß deoided to renew the policy.

Kakaramea. — Mr. Cowem, agent at Patea, forwarded a letter from John Lind,a tenant at Kakaramea, who wanted the Board to allow him one year free of rent, or reduce it to the upset price of 10s per acre, or should the Board consider it more to its advantage to release him from his conditions, to allow him 75 per cent, towards the value of improvements, or such other assistance as would meet this case. — Mr. Cowern wrote stating that the tenant was lessee of sectioa 475, Kakaramea Town Belt, and that the statements contained in Lind's letter were mostly correct, and that he was a good class of tenant.— lt was decided that the Board regretted it could not accede to Mr. Lind's request. Transfers. — Mr. H. R. Richmond, applied on behalf olf H.R. Jury,f or transfer of lease of allotment 10, Manganui district, to Major Hooper Clark, Midhirst. Granted.— Mr. Richmond also applied on behalf of Mr. R. Parris to transfer lease of sections 282, 306, and 308, New Plymouth, to William James Parris, of Gisborne, surveyor. Granted.

Unable to pay.— R. Slattery, holder of sections 19 and 20, Manaia Road, at 5s 8d per acre, informed the Board that the rent was too high, and he could not pay it. — Correspondence was read from Mr. Oowern on the matter. — The Board decided to write to Mr. Cowern anent R. Slattery's application, pointing out that 18 months' rent is owing, and not Bix months, as stated by him, and asking also for an explanation. The Board adjourned.
