MEETING OF FARMERS.

Thb adjourned meeting of farmers was held in the Sal ration Army barracks this afternoon, fifty farmers being present. Mr. Kyngdon occupied the chair. Mr. Arßowsmith reported that the committee appointed at ffee last meeting had decided to make the following proposals to the meeting for adoption : That a department in connection with the New Plymouth Co-operative Society (Limited) be formed to deal with distinct branch, with the object: — 1. The sale on commission of the farm pro'luce of the members,; 2. Bavin? sold the produce, the cash to be paid to the proJucerg, less co:nmi3sio.n and expenses ; 3. That all butter be classed according to qnality, and only firat-clas3 butter be printed, -with the L/o-oper.itivo Society's brand, in addition to tho brand of tbe producer; 4. That no higher dividepd than 7 per cent, be paid on the eapitnl account, but that any sum of profit over and above that dividend be divided pro raia according to the transactions of the individual. Mr. Arrowßinith said that the recommendations for this course were the avoidance of all preliminary expenses in the formation of a< separate company; the association would go before the far- . mers with all tbe prestige of being attached to the successfully working Co-operative Society; and the Uo-operative Society having already a number of corresponding agents, the working of the branch could be commenced at once. .After considerable discussioa, in which Messrs. Hulke, Upjohn, J. Kelly, Fischer, Arrowsmith, Corkill and others took part it was resolved "That a department in connection with the New Plymouth Cooperative Society [Limited] be formed to deal with furm and diary produce as a separate and distinct branch." It was also decided that the committee appointed at the last meeting be reappointedto canvass farmers on tha matter ; to formulate some j general [scheme ; and to confer with the j Directors of the Co-operative Society on the subject.
