CABLE MESSAGES.} [FROM RKIJTKR AND OTIIRR SOUROiSS.] IMPBUIAL FEDERATION. London, April 1. A ineefciug of the Imperial Federation League was held at the Mansion House last night. Mr. James Service, of Viotoriri, delivered a speech, ia which he stated that the Colonies desired the Imperial Government to duly consider their views on Imperial affairs. They were moreover largely prepared to sink their interests for the good of the Empire. The treatment of the New Hebrides and New Guinea questions by the Imperial Government had caused dissatisfaotion in the Australian Colonies. He considered the Home Government were too ready to yield to the wishes of foreign countries. IRISH LAND BILL. In the House of Lords last night, Earl Cadogan, Lord of the Privy Seal, introduced thy Irish Land Bill. The Bill admits leaseholders to the benefit of the Act of 1881, and provides ior persons who are evicted becoming oaretakers of property. It provides for evictions being delayed in cases of tenants becoming insolvent, and exempts landlords from payment of rates in oases where rents are not paid owing to intimidation. PRINCE ALEXANDER SUED BY HIS KIDNAPPERS. After the deposition of Prince Alexander, while he was at Reni under the oharge of his kidnappers, he stated that he was without money, and prevailed on his captors to lend him five thousand francs to enable him to proceed to Darmstadt. Prince Alexander afterwards declined to refund the money, and the lenders are now suing him for the amount. FENIANS AT THEIR WORK. A box containing a phial, supposed to contain fulminate of mercury, has been sent to Mr. Balfour, Irish Secretary. He has frequently been warned by anonymous letters, since accepting his present office, to prepare for death. The impression prevails that the box sent to Mr. Balfour was only intended as a hoax. THE KAPUNDA DISASTER, The mate of the Ada Melmore was severely censured by the Couit of Inquiry, and Ootterell, mate of the Kapunda, commended. The Press condemns the leniency of the judgment. MELBOURNE EXHIBITION, Mr. Deakin advises that Mr. John Mclntyre should be appointed upon the London Committee of the Melbourne Exhibition MAIL SHIP* The third mail offer, which it was mentioned a few days ago would probably be made, will be based upon a thirty-four -days' service. IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. Some of the delegates to the Conference express disapproval of the programme being narrowed down as announced. There is a growing opinion that the Conference will be an empty show, barren of practical results. The members of the Order of St. Michael and St. George now in England have been invited, through the Gazette, to a banquet in St. James's Palace. The Duke of Cambridge will preside, and the Prince of Wales will be present. MEETING OF COLONIAL BEPBESENTATIVES. At the invitation of Sir S. Griffiths, the Australiau delegates to the Conference held a meeting to-day. On the motion of Sir Saul Samuel, seconded by Mr. Deakin, Sir S. Griffiths was voted to the chair, but owing to the absence of Sir P. Jennings, Mr. Wis< dom, and Sir W. Fitzherbert, the meeting, at the request of Sir S. Samuel, was adjourned. Though the details of the programme were not debated, suoh discussion as there was showed the feeling of the delegates was harmonious. The Yiotoriau delegates instructed Mr. Ddakin to inform Sir Henry Holland that their programme will comprise defence of the oolonies, the disposal of the New Hebrides, New Guinea, recidivistes, postal matters, cables, and the investment of trust funds in colonial stooks. OPPOSITION TO CRIMES BILL. The Radicals are promoting active agitation outside parliamentary circle & against the Irish Crimes Bill, in order to take advantage of the Easter recess.
