SYDNEY RACE MEETING.

For the Great Metropolitan Stakes, which will be run for on Tuesday next, there are twenty-three acceptances. The horses still left in the Derby, which takes place to-day (Saturday) are Kingsgrove, Acme, Trident, Blairgowrie, and Kingfish.

PUBLIC MEETING AT FITZROY. A rOBLic meeting was held in tho schoolroom, Fitzroj', oa Thursday evening for the purpose of: considering the question of! forming- Fitzroy into a town district. Thero were about thirty persons present, Mr. Colvill in the chair.

A discussion ensued, in which the advantages o£ forming a town district were debated, and it was decided, on Mr. McLean's proposition, seconded by Mr. Jackson, " That Fitzroy township and suburbs, as per plan, be formed into a town district, and that a petition be prepared rtnd signed by all those in favor of tho same and presented to tho County Council." Thero was only one dissentient to this resolution, and he was a resident outside tho proposed town district.

The plan of the proposed district showed tho eastern boundary to be the Waiwakaiho River ; tho western, tho Henui River ; the northern, tho sea beach ; and the BOutherD, a line which takes in Mr. Puyntcr's farm an i Mr. Ribie's property.

By the formation of the Fitzroy Town District the Henni Road Board will be reduced to very small dimensions, and will have only the Hospital road to attend to. The advantages accruing lo Fitzroy from becoming a town district will be that it will escape the Koid Board rates, which it will, however, continue to levy, or perhaps increase, for the formation oC footpaths. As a town distn.it Fiizroy will still be liable to county rates, which, however, are inconsiderable.

Two carpentci'rf planes were taken away from the Freemason's 1 all on tho evening of the Doll Show, and the matter has been placed in tho hands of tho police, who have, however, been unable to find any trace of tho lost articles. It is thought they might perhaps have got packed up with some of the paraphernalia of the show, and htivo not yet been discovered by. their unintentional rtmovtis. The planes arc marked with the owner's name, so could easily bo returned when discovered.
