PARIIIAKA ROAD BOARD. (FROM 008 OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

September 15. — A meeting of the Parih&ka Road Board was held on tho 14th. Present: Messrs. Stevenson, J. J. Elwin, Fleming, Syme, and Anderson (chairman.) Correspondence. — A letter was read from tho Surveyor- General, informing the Committee that the Government had already done all it proposed with the funds at ica disposal in tho way of making roads in tho district, and further expenditure for clearing and formation of the roadf, as well as the necessary repairs, will require to be undertaken by the local body. The letters read at last meeting were also read ; also j one from Mr. E. J. Morgan, for works on Rahotu Road ; and County Council. The Cemetery. — The members reported that as far as gatting subscriptions for the cemetery improvement they had been unsuccessful. ' Hate Book. — It was resolved, "That Mr. Elwin and the Chairman sign the rate book." Bad Road. — Mr. Wright, as a deputation from Tepoki Road, stated that the road was impassable in several places. — The Overseer was requested to report on the state of roads at the next meeting. Overseer's Report. — The overseer's report was read. Maori Pigs. — The overseer callod attention to the nuisance of pigs at largo on the roada, and was instructed to write to the native chiefs on the subject. — Mr. "Wright informed the Board that he and Messrs Bayly and Dew were going to commence shooting pic;s oa Ist November. Gorse. — Notice is to be given to all parties that have gorse growing on the roads adjoining their property to remove it forthwith, or it will bo cleared at their expense. Deputation to Mr. Ballance, — It was resolved that a deputation wait on Mr. Ballance to-morrow. Accounts were passed.

A depution consisting of Messrs. Gane Stevenson, El win, Fleming, Chapman, Middleton, and A. Anderson waited on the Hon. Mr. Ballanco on Wednesday. Mr. A.nderson, as chairman, congratulated Mr. Ballance on the success of his nitive policy and other matters. Mr. Ballanco replied. Mr. El win brought on the question of the dog tax. Mr. Ballance in replying said as a matter of public policy the natives were exempt, as Mr. Gano was aware, and the Government were not going to alter it. — Mr. EtAViN said it was impossible to keep sheep. — Mr. Gang informed Mr. Ballance that though he had mentioned his name in the matter he had nothing to do in bringing the matter forward. — The question of village settlements, a Land Office at Opunake, anJ Mr. Chapman's timber reserve, were also spoken of.

Mr. Ballance was accompanied by Mr. Lewis, sen., Mr. Lewis, jun., Mr. Rennell, and Mr. Thompson, interpreter.

Mr. Ballance held a meeting with the natives, which pleased them much. He 13 likewise having a Lind Court sitting, to be held iv about six weeks.

A meeting of householders was held at Mr. Malcolm's house, on the Kinua Road, about five miles south of Rahotu, when it was resolved to ask the Education Board to form a school district, as there are upwards of 30 children that woald attend school. There are 35 chillren of school age, nod 20 under, and iucreaeing.
