Auckland, September 16.

Mr. D. H. McKenzie has reoeived a cablegram from his agent at Cambridge Gulf, asking instructions re disposal of the Bapido's cargo, the goods being wholly unsaleable, and stating that Kimberley was a total failure.

BUICIDE THROUGH BETTING.

In Hall's pocket was foand a letter addressed to the ooroner which shows that he premeditated the act of suicide, and that it was caused through betting losses. LIEUTENANT ANDREWS APPOINTED,

Lieut. Andrews, of Sydenham, who was recently granted a commission in the Line, has been appointed to the Ist battalion of Sherwood Foresters, the Derbyshire Begiment (the old 45 th Begiment) now stationed ia Ireland.

A CRIMINAL FAMILY.

A family of six— father, mother, two daughters, named Cook— appeared ia Court this morning to answer charges of •wholesale larceny and the receipt of stolen goods. The boys were little fellows and the girls of maturer years. For some time complaints have been general of petty thieving, especially of small goods and flowers. Yesterday the two boys were caught ia the act of stealing some articles from the front of a general store. On visiting Cook's house, a large assortment of miscellaneous goods, some still bearing shop marks, were found, and this morning a number of tradesmen had quite a busy time at the Police Station identifying their property/ The two boys pleaded guilty, the rest not guilty, aud all were remanded for a week.
