dinner to thb australian cricketers: London, September 18. The Australian cricketers were entertained to-day at a dinner by Mr. Henuiker Heaton. CABLE FROM VANCOUVER'S ISLAND TO AUSTRALIA. In the House of Commons to-day Sir Edward Stanhope, Seoretary of State for the Colonieß, stated, in reply to a question, that the proposed' cable from Vancouver's Island to. Australia would be attended with heavy expenditure, and Her Majesty's Government could not arrive at a decision on the subject until the different Colonial Governments interested in the soheme should have expressed their opinions. WOOL STILL FIRM. At the Colonial wool auctions on Monday 14,000 bales wore offered, and prices firmly maintained. Faulty wools of good quality are 4d. higher than at the close of last sales.
