HOMEWARD ROUTE.
At the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, to-day, a discussion ensued on the advisability of establishing a
Cottage Hospital at Hawera. Dr. O'Carroll ) w»b present. la reply to questions he stated that he would favor a branch hospital being established at Hawera for the accommodation of cases of accidents resulting in wounds or slight injuries, but he thought serious cases should continue to bo Bent on to the New Plymouth Hospital. Mr. I. Bayly remarked that one case of inflammation of the Jungs Jiud recently been sent in from Hawera, and the patient had died. He questioned whether the death was not mainly brought about by the exposure in the draughty rail way "carriage. Dr. O'Carroll negatived this idea.. He said the case wuh too far gone when sent in, and recovery waß hopeless under the circumstances. This was, he said, the second case which bad been allowed to go too far before being sent to the hospital. Ten summonses against settlers who had failed to register their dogs were to have been heard in Court this morning, but all the cases were withdrawn as the amounts were paid at the last moment.
