Ue retained this office till 1859, when ho retired from politics. In this year tho first Volunteer corps was formed, whon Mr. Watt was elected as its captain. He went on several expeditions with his company during the war of 186061, aud after the truco was made in the latter year he accepted the appointment of Resident Magistrate at the Bluff, where ho was for many years. He was afterwards made Resident Magistrate at Dunodin till about three years since, when he retired on a pension. He was a married man and had four children — two boys and two girls.
