At tho annual meeting of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday, Mr. Aitken, tho chaii-raau, reviewed the commercial position of Auckland. He said he thought the out-look was more hopeful, and suggested that the chambers might be more iniluoutial if an Association of the Chambers of the Colony were established. A DOUBLE SENTENCE. Wellington, July IG. At the Supreme Court this morning, John O'Brien, for larceny, was sentenced to fivo years' hard labor. The sentence is to run concurrently with one of five years now being served by him and of which twelve months have passed. SUDDKN DEATH. Eicbardßell, a bailiff, died suddenly last night or this morning. He was in possession of tho Waterloo Hotel on behalf of the Official Assignee, and was found dead in bed. He was aged 72 years. LEVY, THE LOST. The Government have received a cable stating that Levy, the missing J.P., has not turned up in Sydney. ARRIVAL OF AORANGI Port Chalmers, July IG. Arrived : Aorangi, from Plymouth, after a fine passage of 39 days 3 hours. She brings 33 saloon, and 15G steerage passengers. She had a remarkably fine passage.
